Cap't Monkey And Tooele Boy And The Impressive Building

When last we visited our superheroes they had escaped the peril of the big stump on the beach--a truly terrifying experience for Tooele Boy who required sedatives for several weeks to overcome the horror of his dreams. We now find the duo on a quest for knowledge and decent pico de gio recipe.

"Tooele Boy?" the team leader asked as the pair stopped before an impressive structure.

"Yes, Cap't Monkey," answered the dutiful ward.

"In all of our travels, over many continents, have you ever seen such a wonderful building before in your life?"

"Actually, Cap't Monkey, I have. Remember that Dunkin Donuts in Kansas City? You know, the one with the huge chicken on the roof and the..."

"No, Tooele Boy...you are mistaken. We have traveled by train, by moped, by yacht, by stage, and even by ostrich. I can say with a large degree of confidence that we have never come across such a majestic building before."

Tooele Boy's thinker hurt as he heard the words spew forth from his mentor's mouth. "But Cap't Monkey," he said thinking of many superior buildings. "There was that converted houseboat in Tuscon..."

"My dear friend, you could not be more wrong, and to be honest, I'm a little disappointed in your lack of respect for my intellect. I mean, you've seen me cry in Nepal, snore in Sweden, and pray in Venezuela."

"Shucks, sir. I didn't mean any disrespect," Tooele Boy's sincerity flowed from his words. "But I think I've seen other buildings more..."

"YOU MAY THINK...," Cap't Monkey's patience wore thin like string cheese strings. After several deep breaths, he continued. "...that you have seen a building to match this one in impressiveness, but your conclusions are flawed, like the myth of Keynesian economics. I submit that this structure, this paragon of engineering perfection is unsurpassed in both esthetic beauty and overall niftiness. You must agree with me on this point."

Tooele Boy looked up, his eye keen to the task at hand. "Oh, you mean this building," he said pointing to the brick monolith on the left. "I thought you meant that one."

"Nope, Tooele Boy. You've seen one Burger King, you've seen them all."

"So true, Cap't Monkey...so true."

  1. Such lovely humour in this - travelling by ostrich has got to be one of my favourites.

  2. Thanks Sally! I didn't really know how this would work out, but the prompt words sent me on a traveling path and things went from there. Thanks again!

  3. You made me laugh throughout, Scott. Great characters. Riding on an ostrich! That was a funny image.
I'In the midst of a project rewrite, so I'm not going to be on the Hop regularly for a while. Leanne sent me to look at the "really Good" prompt pic for the week--which is a cool pick--but I think her real intention was so show me that I received the ad award this, week.
That was cool, but having seen it, I had to put a story in this week. I'm really glad I did. A very interesting piece came of it.
I'm looking forward to seeing your next one.

  4. Excellent, I enjoyed this Scott. I could feel Tooele Boy's frustration at not being heard, and he was very smart about avoiding Cap't's anger. Very clever Boy.

The line about Burger King made me chuckle, too.
