This Week's Challenge

This week instead of having one photo to use and five words to incorporate, we just have two photos that need to be used in your story. Of course, if YOU want to have a little fun and be creative at the same time, you should give this little weekly writing challenge a try!

If you want to, here are the rules:

1) Use both photos in your story.
2) Keep your word count 500 or less.
3) You have until next Tuesday night to link up your post.
4) Use the Blue Link to add your story at: Leanne's, Debb's, or Tena's websites.
5) Have fun, don't stress, and let those creative juices flow!

Here you go!

Adam's First Lesson

"Mom?"

"Yes, son."

"I...I think I've changed my mind."

Claudia cringed as she drove her son to his first violin lesson. "Oh, Adam." The tired mother pulled the car off the road and put it in park.

"Adam," she sighed. "Son, we've been over this again and again."

"I know," came a sad voice from the car's back seat.

"But just this morning you were so excited about starting lessons."

"I know, but..." Claudia waited, but she heard only silence. She checked her watch--if they didn't get back on the road they'd be late, and anyone who knew Claudia knew she hated to be late.

"Adam, can we talk about this as we drive?"

"I guess so." Claudia tried to see her son in the rear view mirror to see how he was doing. She was glad he agreed to talk while they drove. It meant he had not completely given up on the idea of lessons. Claudia and her husband were confused when Adam began having reservations. Learning to play the violin had been his idea in the first place. After a group of college musicians came to his school and gave a demonstration of violins, cellos, and violas, Adam came home so excited and he practically begged his parents to let him take lessons.

The pair did some research, found a used instrument online and contacted a teacher recommended by friends from their church. Everything seemed prefect. Perfect, until a week before his first lesson, Adam approached them and said he didn't want to take lessons anymore.

The parents tried to figure out why their son had a change of heart, but he wouldn't say. They thought maybe he didn't know himself.

"How you feeling?" Claudia asked, only a mile away from their destination.

"Okay, I guess."

"Adam?"

"Yes, mom."

"Is the reason you were changing your mind because of where we're going?" Claudia had a hunch and thought she'd test her theory.

"What do you mean?" Adam asked.

"Are you a little worried about us driving in this part of town?"

"Maybe."

Claudia smiled, a feeling of relief came over her. She should have realized what was happening. The last time Adam was in this part of town he went to a cousin's birthday party and it turned into a disaster. Some of the kids kept making fun of Adam and he left the party crying. Last week he asked where is new teacher's house was and they told him it was near his cousin's house.

"You know," Claudia said. "I'm not going to be leaving you there while you're at your lesson"

"You're not?" Adam said and his mother could sense a smile in his words.

"No. I'm going to be waiting for you either in the car or in the house. It's too far to leave you and then come back."

"Thanks mom!" Adam said. "I can't wait for my first lesson!"
