Book Bomb...Dave Butler's "Witchy Eye"

It's finally here.

It's interesting knowing about a book from almost its inception.

Over the years, I've had many a conversation with authors. "What are you working on?" becomes something we ask each other. Political differences, backgrounds, opinions, work ethic, personal habits all disappear--our latest WIP is the one thing we have in common, the one thing that binds us, that makes us family.

When you ask Dave Butler about what he's working on--if you both have the time--be prepared for a lengthy answer. And that's just if he wants to talk about one book, one project. I remember hearing about what would become Witchy Eye, his latest book that's available today. He talked of an alternate reality, America as it's never been, but could have been.

Sometimes conversations with Dave hurt my brain. When he goes into the intricacies of the story, the subplots, the characters. Seriously, it can be overwhelming, not necessarily what he says, but how he's interwoven complex subjects, amazing creativity, and even texts from ancient Hebrew scripts or other obscure references that he's not just thrown into the story, but that he's studied and knows. The author part of my brain hurts because I know how difficult it is to create a somewhat simple story. To put all these elements together is what overwhelms.

Today's the book launch for Witchy Eye. You can buy it at this link: HERE. I can't wait to get a copy for. I'll let you know if it hurts my brain, or simply entertains. My guess--it'll do both.

Xchyler's "Steel And Bone"...A Book Bomb

Steel and Bone: Nine Steampunk Adventures*

This upcoming Saturday Xchyler Publishing is having a book bomb for their latest steampunk anthology, Steel & Bone. If you're interested in the steampunk genre, I recommend you check this one out. You can access the Facebook page: HERE.

Here's a breakdown of the nine stories:

Steel and Bone, cover and blurb

I have several writer friends in this anthology. Scott "With The Cool Name" Tarbet, Sarah "Awesomeness Writer" Seeley and John "Couldn't Be A Nicer Guy" Olsen are local authors that I've gotten to know over the past few years. Many of the other writers I know as well, although it's through social media.

The book launches Saturday. If you want to check out the Amazon page, click: HERE. Steampunk can be a tricky thing to write. To me, it's one of those "you'll know it when you see it" kind of things. These are proven writers and I can't wait for this book to get out there and fly. I'm looking forward to reading it. I hope you will be, too.

Alyson Grauer's "On The Isle Of Sound And Wonder"...A Book Bomb

Sometimes getting a book published that you wrote isn't the best feeling in the world. Tomorrow my publishing family is seeking help for one of our own.

We're having a book bomb. Those of us at Xchyler are promoting Alyson Grauer's book, On the Isle of Sound and Wonder as a show of support for Alyson's dad who is fighting the good fight. You can get more information about this: HERE.

I know there's a lot of requests for this cause or that cause, and I suppose this one could be just another one of many to you. But to us at Xchyler, it means a little bit more. That happens when you know those involved personally and feel for them as friends and colleagues do.

It's been almost eight years since we lost my mom to cancer, and when my father passed away from the same thing, the internet as we know it was decades away. We didn't have this type of fundraising option back then. Everyone knows the Information Superhighway can be used for both good and bad. It can showcase the very best in humanity as well as the very worst. I applaud its use in something like this, something that can bring people together from literally around the world to help someone else.

If you have a chance tomorrow, click: HERE and pick up the e-book, or hardcover or paperback. You'll be doing more than just buying a great book. You'll be helping out a friend.

Remember, sometimes having your book published or seeing it on a shelf in a library or bookstore isn't the most important thing. When you really think about it, the most important things are always the people in our lives.

Book Bomb Time...Brad Torgersen's "The Chaplain's War"

*

Today several local authors are participating in a book bomb, a get-the-word-out campaign for a newly released book, Brad R. Torgersen's The Chaplain's War

You can access the author's website: HERE.

You can go to Amazon and buy the book outright: HERE.

Even though I've not read the book, I am familiar with the setting. Torgersen included two short stories in his book, Lights in the Deep. I blogged about that book and enjoyed it very much (you can read that blog post: HERE). Of all the stories in that collection, the ones involving Torgersen's chaplain stayed with me longer than perhaps any of his other stories. When I read his short story collection earlier this year, news of the full-length novel had already been announced and I understood how easily the characters and the situations in this new fictional world could be adapted to a longer, more developed story. You can pick up Lights in the Deep: HERE.

When a short story or novella so quickly and fully develops a believable and complete reality, adding several hundred pages usually only makes everything better. Needless to say, I'm excited about this one!

If you're a fan of science fiction and wonder if there's anything new to read, please check out Brad's latest work. I think you'll be glad you did.
