It's Wedding Week...

In many parts of the world, having a son get married at twenty-five is unusual--for some, it's because that's young to get married--for others, it's because twenty-five is old to be getting married.

We live in a society of the latter.

Or, at least, we used to. It seems there are fewer and fewer marriages nowadays. Maybe it's because there's fewer and fewer kids. That makes sense.

But, for our two families, it's wedding week.

The big day - Friday.

Are we ready? Probably not.

We're still digging out from a mountain of cardboard boxes. We knew things were going to be crazy in October. When we decided to move and Knight and Anne decided to get married, we knew we were in for some insane times. We figured, after the move we'd have time to concentrate on the wedding. We do, but it feels like it's not enough.

We're new to the whole wedding thing. I'm grateful we have an understanding son and his fiancee. At least, I think they've been understanding. They haven't complained at all. That's a blessing. Friday will arrive. We'll try and do everything that needs doing. I'm sure we'll miss some things--that always happens. Let's just hope they're not big things.

Yes, it's Wedding Week. A first for us. Here's to another new adventure!

Time Flew In Church Last Week...

So, the past couple of weeks have been a blur. We closed at show at the beginning of the month. The next week I attended all three days of the FanX comic convention--basically I stood around for 12 + hours a day for three days. Not to be outdone, the following week I started my p/t gig at Lagoon's Frightmares, in addition to driving my daughter around as she and her fellow cast members learned an entirely new show in five days. And to top things off, I did a book signing on Saturday in between working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Lagoon.

It's been quite a month.

Which brings me to attending Sunday services over the weekend.

I only attended the first hour (because I had to go to work...), but I must say, that first hour flew by. There was nothing special about the meeting. It was your basic LDS Sacrament meeting with ward business, the administering of the Sacrament, songs, prayers, and speakers.

So, why did the meeting go by so quickly?

Basically, because I slept through half of it.

After the Sacrament was administered, we had a youth speaker, a charming boy, and he started hot--funny stuff, good jokes.

The next thing I heard was music playing. It was the rest hymn. That meant I missed most of the youth's speaker's talk and then the entirely of the second speaker. After the rest hymn, a neighbor sitting by us asked if I was okay, if I needed anything.

"More sleep," was my response.

I'm hoping that next week I won't be as tired. We'll be three weeks separated from the show ending, two weeks separated from FanX, and a week separated from starting another show and doing a book signing. Of course, who knows what the future will bring?

Up Next...Salt Lake Comic Con, 2017 Edition!

For those of us living in Utah with an "inner nerd" living inside, this is a big week. It's the week we look forward to all year, the week we make final adjustments to costumes, do a little extra research for panels, and order more books to hopefully sell to future fans.

This is the week Salt Lake Comic Con comes to town!

It's one of the best weeks of the year.

If you've followed this blog (or know me in person...), you know that since 2013 I've been fortunate enough to help put on Utah's best convention. Though I've met very few celebrities, and I've never dressed as my favorite superhero (unless that superhero is Scott William Taylor, the author...), I've had some amazing experiences at these events.

This one should be no different. And I've been asked to help out on two panels, one I'm moderating. I'll blog about those later this week. It's been a crazy month so far and adding Comic Con only adds to the craziness.

People who have never attended these events ask me why they're so popular, why people go again and again, year after year. And I alway say the same thing. For three days (and even more, if you count FanX...), people come from all over, dress up in a way that's generally not acceptable most places, and interact with others just like them, all the while feeling safe and accepted. It's something that people yearn for, search for, pray for. Whenever I'm at a Comic Con, almost everyone is smiling, all the time.

And in just a few days, I'll be lucky enough to get to see those people again.
