It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like...Halloween

I only included one picture, though I could have added more. As I drive around the neighborhoods in my small(ish) town, I see more and more homes decked-out in Halloween garb. Maybe it's not more homes, no more than usual, or maybe there's even fewer homes decorated. It seems like more. I hope it is.

I came across a rather large spiderweb this morning. I stopped and snapped a picture. Gary did a fine job--it couldn't have been easy. It made me wonder why there aren't more elaborate outdoor (and, indoor...) displays.

You know, more like Christmas.

Christmas seems to be the standard by which all other decorating is measured.

I wonder if Halloween will get closer in the coming years.

We decorate our home. We don't go all out. We decorate for Halloween less than we do for Christmas. And we've been known to decorate on Halloween day-something we'd never consider for Christmas.

Seeing Halloween decorations warms my heart, which is a good thing when the temperature begins to fall. So, when it's beginning to look a lot like Halloween, that's a good thing.

Halloween Decorating...At Work

I moved to my new building last spring. I knew many people who have worked there; I'd heard the stories. Not that they were bad--it's just I had no connection to it. That changed a few months ago. Being in a new building brings many new things. There's a feeling in a building, a spirit, a way it operates. I'm getting used to it.

But since I've not been there a full year, it still surprises me. The biggest surprise so far is the lengths the employees will go to decorate their work spaces for Halloween. There's even a decorating contest. I work upstairs and I've seen some of what was going on. Things have accelerated the last week or so. Many are taking this whole contest very seriously. Last Thursday I decided to check out all the other departments to see just how far they've done.

Turns out, pretty far.

I took a ton of pictures, but I'm only including a few so you can get a taste of what the place will look like come Halloween day.

There's bound to be more surprises as the days and weeks go by. I doubt, however, that any future surprises will be this big.

Halloween Decorations At Work...Pretty Awesome!

Beginning last week Halloween wreaths began showing up on my cubicle row at work. Turns out one co-worker created fourteen different wreaths and the best part is, we get to keep them after the holiday.

I don't know who you work with, but I've got a group of wonderful co-workers. I've only worked in the building for a few months, but I already feel part of the team. The creator of the incredible works of art said she made them because she loves to create things and Halloween is her favorite holiday. That combination works out well for me and the rest of the people on my row.

I took a few pictures, but did not take a picture of each creation. Hopefully you'll get an idea of not only how great these look, but what a nice gesture it was. Yes, I have fantastic co-workers. I'm lucky to be included in their ranks.

Bring Out The Decorations!

In our basement of treasures, we have several big plastic bins. There's the greens ones, but a few are black and orange. Today we brought up the black and orange ones.

When we first moved into our house, we always brought up the Halloween decorations, but the last couple of years, the boxes have stayed in the basement. Maybe it's because time flies so fast--especially at the end of the year--that around the time it feels like it should be Halloween, it's about a week away from Thanksgiving.

This year, though, we decided to set up our Halloween decorations (or, the kids decided we should...). We don't overdue it, but the few decorations we have are fun.

These ghosts are made of cheesecloth and some sort of hardening substance. I think I got them from a work party over 10 years ago...fun stuff, and so simple.

And, of course, the haunted piano player just adds to the creepiness...

Turn off the lights and the illuminated spiders and pumpkins take center stage. Even though Christmas decorations are king, Halloween decorations are the most fun...
