If You Haven't Yet...Give The Legendarium Podcast A Chance

I listened to the latest episode from The Legendarium Podcast today. If you're not familiar with the podcast and you like all things nerd and geeky--especially books and movies centering around the fantasy and SciFi genres--you'll love this group. Here's the synopsis of their latest discussion:

The Legendarium Podcast|

Ryan, Craig, Kenn, and Todd are together again, this time to spin the Wheel of Tangents. They take on completely random topics in and out of the SFF fold, including fantasy fashion, amusement park food, issues of distance in sci-fi, absurd dream house features, and much, much more.

I must admit--I don't listen to all the podcasts, especially when they're deconstructing a book I haven't read or they're discussing something I'm not interested in. Though, it's rare when that happens. This latest episode reminded me of when I first found them...obvious friends sitting around chatting, chewing the fat, shooting the bull (sometimes, a lot of bull...). Of the four, I've performed several times with three of them. And, years ago, I was fortunate enough to be included in one of their discussions.

Fast forward several years. They've evolved in their discussions, they've expanded their interests (or the interests they share...), and they've added more experts, some I know, others I don't, but even with the changes, the core of the show remains the same. If you'd like to check out the blog, the podcast, and even support their endeavors, click: HERE for more information.

I've blogged about this group before. Today, listening to my friends, it reminded me of why I like them so much.

Catching The Legendarium Podcast...A Live Version...At FanX

I've listened to dozens, possibly hundreds of Legendarium Podcast episodes. A few weeks ago I, along with thousands of others, watched a live version. Okay--it wasn't live, I mean, they recorded the show to be broadcast at a later date. I watched them perform at the FanX Comics Convention in Salt Lake City.

They were there because I wanted the convention attendees to see them for themselves.

Except for Craig Hanks, one of the founders, I have been involved in community theater productions with each person they had on stage. There's more members of the Legendarium family, but not all could make it. Too bad--they each provide a distinctive voice I've come to know over the years.

Theirs was not the only podcast that performed. There were several, in fact. When I asked the Legedarium if they'd like to participate, they simply asked what would we like to see them do. I told them, we'd like audience participation, and we wanted them to talk about things our convention goers would enjoy.

And the Legendarium Podcast delivered!

They had games and gave out prizes. I could have been more pleased--they did exactly what I hoped they'd do. And, the red team won, which is always nice.

I looked back at the photos I took of the group to include in this post. Amazingly enough, I did not get a picture of Todd. I got Craig and Ryan, Kenn and Megan, but not Todd. Actually, that's not true. In one picture you can see Todd's arm. Don't know what happened--sorry Todd.

If you're not familiar with the podcast, check out their website by clicking: HERE. You can start listening to current episodes, or check out the 200 + past podcasts. I'm even on one of them, episode #126, Dauntless, by Jack Campbell.

The group is fun and informative. They know their stuff. And, because I know most personally, it's extra fun for me. Give them a shot! If you're a geek like me, I think you'll love it, too.

The Legendarium Podcast And The Legend Of Zelda...Good Stuff!

Zelda Social

If you're a fan of the Zelda video game series, check out this week's The Legendarium Podcast. You will be glad you did.

Personally, I could not fully appreciate this particular episode for a couple of reasons. First, I don't play a lot of video games. The last console I played games on was the Super NES. I know, I know...I'm a goober, but sometimes you must decide between buying/upgrading video game systems and games or feeding your family.

"You chose wisely." Grail Knight

The other reason others will enjoy this podcast episode more than me is because I've only played two Zelda games in my life, the classic, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and the Game Boy version, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I do know my kids have played several versions of the Zelda franchise and they love them.

I did play the game enough to appreciate the music the cool dudes at The Legedarium Podcast included in this episode. Even thought I haven't played many versions of the game, when I hear that music, it brings back good memories. I really do like the game.

So, if you have kept up with the game, or if you're like me and haven't played it in a long time, check out their episode. If you want to listen, just click on the link (sorry...) to the podcast: HERE. As always, good job Legendarium guys!

The Legendarium Podcast...Something New

Ever since I learned about podcasts a few years ago (I was late to the party…) I subscribed to almost every one I found. And since that time, I slowly came to the realization that there weren’t enough hours in the day to listen to them all.

So, in the past couple of years I’ve been peeling back on the podcast subscriptions, dropping old podcasts more than accepting new ones. And even some of the few subscribed podcasts are not listened to every time. It’s kind of like call screening, but for podcast. I've deleted many a podcast without listening to it and only listening to the longer ones if the subject sounds interesting.

Last summer at the 2nd Salt Lake Comic Con, I was introduced to a new podcast, The Legendarium Podcast. I attended a panel where four dudes talk about all stuff nerd. The main reason I attended the panel is because I was friends with three of the four geeks.

I enjoyed the panel very much.

But it wasn’t until this week that I actually checked it out.

And, I was impressed!

About a year and a half ago, I started my own podcast. I think I released six episodes. Funny how I’ve written a daily journal for almost 30 years and kept a daily blog for almost four, yet I didn’t keep up on the podcast thing. Basically because it took a lot of work to do a podcast, at least, the way I did it.

The Legedarium Podcast episodes last about an hour and (based on the three that I listened to this week…) involve the same four guys that were on the Comic Con panel. The first two podcasts talked about Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series and their general thoughts concerning that epic work. It seems the boys are in between topics.

A successful podcast must have interesting content—that’s a given. And The Legendarium Podcast did have that. I was also impressed with the production value with each speaker being heard and heard clearly. On the most recent episode there was some unfortunate laughing (Thanks, Todd!) that almost blew out my eardrums. I listen mostly at work, but sometimes I’m listening to podcasts while walking to and from the bus stop and I have to crank the volume.

Suggestion—if Todd begins one of his famous “laughs” (some of which can only be heard by dogs…), have him move away from the mic. Just a thought…

After trying a couple of shows, I subscribed. I am interested in the content and these guys do know their stuff, at least, they did with the topics they discussed in the few episodes I tried. And it’s always cool to know personally someone being proactive and doing something they really enjoy. If you’d like to give these nerds a shot at your attention, the link to their podcast is: HERE. You can also “Like” them on Facebook: HERE or go to iTunes and check them out. Lay on, Macduff!
