Putting In A Yard...

We planned for two sessions...we figure we'd need both to put down all the newly-cut and purchased sod delivered yesterday afternoon. We planned on working Friday night--last night--for as long as we had sunlight, then we'd get up Saturday morning--this morning--and finish the job.

We put out invitations, to family first, then to others. Family were to come on Friday night, the others...Saturday morning.

Turns out, we didn't need the others.

Family took care of everything.

It's been a while since we had to put down sod on our property. The last time we did this was at our old house years and years ago. We enlisted family and friends back then, too. Last night family arrived only minutes after the grass was delivered. By nightfall, the last patch of sod was slid then stamped into place. We all rested and admired the new yard.

Thank goodness for family.

For fun, my wife thought it would be a visual treat to set up a camera and capture a time-lapse video. I set up my phone on a tripod just as we focused on the back yard. My wife was right...it was a visual treat. Thank you to all who helped out last night and for those who volunteered for this morning, but were not needed. Putting in a yard is a lot of work and we're not done yet but we're on our way.

From Ogden To Roy...On The Train...Time-Lapsed

I took the train home from a conference this afternoon. As we departed the station I set my phone on the table, activated the time-lapse video option and began filming.

I don't know what it is about time-lapse video, but I enjoy it a lot. Maybe it's because I'm the one who watched the scene play out before my eyes  and so watching it played back in super-fast motion is cool.

I thought it might be interesting (again, perhaps more for me than others...) to capture some screen shots of what I saw that are taken from the video. I challenge you to see if you can spot these shots in the video. It's probably not a fair challenge due to the poor video quality allowed on these blogs.

Traveling by train you see life from a different angle. One thing that always stands out to me is being able to see the backyards of people's property. We put in so much time and effort (well, when I say "we" I'm not specifically saying "we" as in "I"--I mean it more as "we" as in society...) to making sure the front of our homes look so good because that's what most people see. The train allows us to see a different side.

And at the Roy Station, they have giant shovels. I've not seen a lot of giant shovels in my life, but they have several. And I got a picture of my hand steadying the camera as we went under a bridge. So, for today's blog post, I give you my trip from Ogden to Roy as seen through the time-lapse video player. Enjoy!

Having Fun With the iPhone Time-Lapse...

I LOVE the camera on my phone. Even if I never used my phone as an actual telephone, my iPhone SE is one of my favorite things and it's mostly due to the camera. I still haul around my Nikon D3300 with me most of the time, but when I'm going to the store, or picking up a kid from an activity, I usually just take the phone.

A few months ago I bought one of those phone bases for the car and the last couple of days I've been having fun utilizing the Time-Lapse feature on my phone.

Here's what I've come up with!

The first video I took was at this month's Salt Lake Comic Con, not in the car. I tried to get a shot of all the people coming into the event, but I chose a poor vantage point. Actually, I didn't think of doing it until they had already started coming in. Had I thought ahead, I could have made the video more interesting, but here's what I got.

The next video I took was yesterday as I drove from the store to our shift at Lagoon's Frightmares. I love watching these things! It still blows my mind that I can even capture stuff like this.

I wanted to include one other video, but it didn't turn out. I thought it did. I was sure that before I left McDonalds, I clicked on the Time-Lapse button, but when I was done, this was all that showed up.

Oh well, I guess they all don't work out. I'm not sure how long I'll be fascinated by the Time-Lapse feature, but until then, I'll keep loving my phone and its camera.
