Trying Something New...Now, To Figure Out How To Record It

It always amazes me, the incredible technology that surrounds us. For example, we're thinking about an artistic project that would require filming and posting the videos online. It's in the beginning stages, but if we do this, we've got to figure out the best way to record those videos.

The best camera we have--as far as compact--is our phones. The problem is, we don't have unlimited memory and the phones are relatively heavy. I'm sort of a camera nut and I've collected several (inexpensive...) digital cameras over the years, mostly from yard sales...

No surprise, there.

So, I dug out the cameras to see if they would work. The results so far have been mixed. Actually, less good than bad. It's the equipment. Had we unlimited funds, we could fix the issues, and if this little project proves fruitful, we might invest in those delicious examples of technology. But, not now. We're not investing just yet.

It's also fun to think about "what might happen." All this technology can turn a "regular person" into a healthy contributor in the local and worldwide economy. That would be nice.

We'll continue experimenting, continue the trial and error needed before any success can come.

I'll keep you posted.

Dear Facebook Marketplace...Just Let Me Find What I'm Looking For

I came across a local yard sale on Facebook Marketplace last weekend. I showed my wife some of the photos posted with the listing, and I made note of the address.

A few hours later I was asked about that particular post, so I thought I'd check Marketplace to pull up the post and provide the information. Problem...

There's no way I could find it.

Darn algorithm.

You'd think it would be easy to find. I first checked the posts that were listed for the day. It wasn't there. I then tried several searches...nope. I even put in the exact headline of the post as best I could remember and I got nada. Even if I didn't remember the post headline exactly, it should pull up the post. It is so frustrating, mostly because I had forgotten the address (that's on me...). You'd think they would want me to find what I'm looking for. I guess not.

Maybe it's not the algorithm's fault. Maybe it's something else. All I know is that if I don't "Save" it, it'll be gone forever. Today, I did another internet search for yard sales in Tremonton. It pulled up a sale we went to last month. Another question--why is that even on there? I'm guessing the person who posted it did not take it down, and I don't believe if I showed up this Saturday, it would be a "fun" Saturday for the people who listed the sale in the first place.

I don't think I'm asking for much...a simple search engine that will allow me to find something I saw only hours earlier on a particular phone app.

Then again, maybe that is asking too much.

May 2023...The Month That Was

In a few hours (our time...) the month of May--2023 version--will be over.

Strange how time flows differently a times. Before the month began, June seemed so far away. It's the month when our daughter gets married, the month when school for our youngest ends. Back in April...oh, we had so much time.

Tomorrow, June begins.

Time is slipping away, and the rock is rolling faster and faster.

It was a great month--frustrating a times--but great. One project we had to complete was fixing our sprinkler system. The old controller bit the digital dust so I thought replacing it would be no big deal. Let's just say, I know so much more about sprinkling system controllers than I did before. As June hits, we can, with a simple push of a button, activate the entire system from our phones...isn't technology wonderful?

Another sign of life returning in the wide valley are yard sales. When we first moved here a few years back, we saw almost no yard sales. I guess we just didn't know where to look. Now, they're all over and we've taken advantage. Last summer we bought so many things to decorate the house and yard at these sales. We thought we may continue the tradition, but this year--so far--we've had to be more discerning. There's a wedding to finance, you know.

May is almost history. June is just around the corner. It will be a month like we've never experienced.

I hope we're ready.
