"All Made Of Hinges"...A New Mormon Steampunk Anthology

42899867

A new anthology is now available. It's guaranteed to be like nothing you've read before. It's called All Made of Hinges, and it's an anthology of Latter-Day Saint steampunk stories.

Like I said, it's like nothing you've read before.

There's an interesting story about this collection. The call went out for submissions. Apparently a lot of us wanted to share their Mormon steampunk stories that not only did they gather enough for one volume, they actually filled three. The first edition was released this week. In the coming months the other two books will be available. I submitted a story that was accepted and I believe it will be in the third book.

Because it's so new, I have not read any of the stories, but I do know most of the authors personally and have read other things they have written. I'm especially excited to read Christopher McAfee's The Machinations of Angles. Chris and I met in the mid-1980s when we both lived in Denmark. Over the years we've run into each other occasionally, mostly at Salt Lake's Comic Con and FanX conventions. I introduced Chris to many of my author friends and now he's in an anthology. I am excited for him.

If you are interested in the book, you can order the e-book right now! Just click: HERE to access the Amazon page. When the other editions are available I'll blog about them, too--especially the one that has my little story. For now, though, please order All Made Of Hinges. Those unique stories are just waiting for you to read them!

Check Out McAfee Book Covers At The Next FanX!

I remember going to the first Salt Lake Comic Con back in September of 2013. I had no idea what I was doing, having never attended such an event before. But I arrived early on the first day so I could experience as much as possible.

The first person I ran into on that first day was Christopher McAfee, a friend of some twenty-plus years. Chris and I served in the same LDS mission so we're a part of a rare group--Danish-speakers. We ended up having lunch that day and we talked a lot. He and I attended difference colleges so we never really had a change to talk about families and such. It was a lot of fun.

Fast forward to the next Salt Lake Comic Con, FanX that was held in April, 2014. Chris got into the true spirit of the event and dressed up. He even brought along a ukulele. And and the next and most recent comic con, the one held last September, Chris decided to be more than just a spectator. He got himself a booth.

So, I'm here to let everyone know (everyone meaning those who read this blog...), that Christopher will be at the Salt Lake Comic Con FanX at January 29, 30, and 31 with his table and he's selling book covers for journals and sketchbooks. This is great because Chris's job deals with bookbinding. It's what he studied in school and what he does everyday. So, you can be sure the man knows what he's doing.

You can see more of these hand-made covers at Chris's website: HERE. And if you're going to the big show this month, check out Chris's stuff. I'm not sure where he'll be, but he'll be there.

It's Steampunk Christopher!

Today is Monday which means, Missionary Letter Day at our house. We've got a son out on a mission and on Mondays they can write home and we can send them electronic mail that they'll be able to see. Since we live in this amazing age, we can e-mail photos instantaneously. I told my son I would send him pictures of this month's Comic Con FanX.

What does that have to do with a steampunk-costumed, ukulele-playing Christopher? That's a good question. As I searched through the numerous photos I took of the event (not nearly as many as I could have taken, or should have taken...), I came across a photo of my friend Christopher at FanX. I almost sent this photo of Chris to my son, but I thought, 'No, he doesn't know him.'

As these things go sometimes, my son sent us his e-mail after I sent him my photos. He talked about his week, the work he's doing, and some background about the pictures he sent. He then said in his e-mail that some missionaries were talking about someone they knew who served in Denmark. Then he asked me if I knew a former Danish missionary named Christopher--the same Christopher I photographed at Comic Con. I should have gone with my instincts and sent him the picture of Chris the first time. He would have been blown away!

On the last day of FanX Chris dropped by the booth where we were selling books and he was decked out in his steampunk costume. The best part--he carried with him a fully-functional steampunk ukulele that he made himself. Very cool!
