Didn't Get The Shot I Wanted...Got Another One Instead

Yesterday afternoon I was busy getting things ready for the little trick-or-treaters. I had to prepare our Candy Cannon, set up chairs in the garage, check to make sure we had enough candy...you know, basic pre-Halloween activities.

That's when I looked east, into the open field next to our house.

That's when I saw a great shot.

My problem--I didn't have my good camera with the telephoto lens.

I actually considered getting it--running into the house, running out into the field for the shot. Unfortunately, thing got in the way and after throwing myself into new activities, I forgot all about the horse and the field and the mountains in the background.

It's a darn shame.

I think it could have been an amazing photo.

Tonight, I wondered if creative lightning could strike twice. The horse was in the field, but not in the same spot looking northward, up the slightly rising slope. I thought I'd see what I could get. I walked out and snapped a few pictures...close, but not great horse shot. If it wasn't Halloween last night, maybe I could have grabbed my camera, trodded out to the field and gotten the show my mind imagined was possible. It might not have worked out.

I'd like to think I would.

Just A Little...Inspiration

 Inspiration...

It comes in many forms. The problem for me is not "not enough inspiration," but too much.

I keep thinking of wonderful writing projects. I'm sure my wife is sick of hearing about each new book or story I want to write. I'll tell her the gist of what I'm thinking about and she nods and usually gives me great feedback on what I told her.

Then, many times, I'll even start the story.

Then, many times, it goes nowhere.

Since it's Halloween time, my thoughts on new projects automatically go to the spooky, the scary, the fun. I want to write a series of stories, short stories that focus on one person...sort of a journal of experiences that happen to this one person. This type of project comes with some unique challenges. I've got some time off at the end of the month. It's a good time to jump right in.

Yes, inspiration can be found almost anywhere. Many times, that's my problem.

Shopping At Joann...With The Wife

"Oh!" my wife sprung up from her chair as we watched some TV tonight.

"What?" I asked.

"I have to go to the store, tonight!"

"Tonight?" I kind of ask dumb questions, sometimes.

"Yeah--you want to go with me?" Now she asked the question.

"Sure...to Harmons?" She shook her head. "Walmart?" Another no.

"Then where?"

"Joann--I've got a coupon and it expires tonight. And you already said you'd go."

Yes, I did, and I wasn't upset I said I'd go. With me working another part-time job until after Halloween, I don't see the family as much as I did, so when she wants to go shopping, I want to go with her. I grabbed my camera and I thought, I can take some pictures and maybe I'll get a blog post out of the trip.

And so I did.

I don't dislike Joann Fabrics and Crafts. It's a cool place--one of my co-worker's favorite stores. It's a good time of year to go to a craft store with Halloween just around the corner and Thanksgiving and Christmas close behind. So, here's a little of what I saw as I meandered through the aisles and saw all the stuff. Animal and human skeletons, silk flowers, cute scarecrows, some great Christmas ornaments, as well as a sewing machine that operated on its own. And, one framed item really classed up the place. Joann is like a wonderland, if you're crafty like that.
