Give Thanks...Sunday Drives

I remember when my in-laws first moved to the town where I grew up, they said they used to go on drives. They had lived in the same neighborhood for decades. It was definitely a change for them and by driving all over the county, they came to know their new home.

We found ourselves doing the same thing.

And we've had a blast doing it.

In the spring, we put more miles on the ol' minivan than we have this summer. There's a couple of reasons for that...first, it's been so hot this summer. Even though the climate inside the Toyota is very comfortable, being in the heat is tough sometimes. Another reason we stopped investigating our neighborhood was the fact we drove to California earlier this summer and after driving a couple of thousand miles, we were sort tired of being in the van.

And the third--and perhaps the biggest--reason we stopped taking Sunday drives was we sort of ran out of places to go. We drove north, east, west, and south. Unless we want to go an hour away (making the drive at least two hours long...), we've seen a lot of the county.

But, something made us climb in the Silver Sienna this afternoon. We wanted to see Howell. We've driven around Howell, but never through. When you're driving past the Howell exit on Interstate 84, the highway signs tell all drivers that there are No Services in Howell. Now that we've driven through it, we can confirm...if you need to get gas for your vehicle or munchies for your fuel, you'd better keep driving.

One thing that blew me away on today's drive was the skies...so beautiful. The blue was, in a word, heavenly. If you're new to an area, try going on Sunday drives. That's a big "thumbs up" from us.
