Tattoos and IPods...

Tattoos and IPods: My Theory

I had a thought today while at work. I thought about tattoos. I must say at the onset that I may be the least experienced person to talk about tattoos. I have no tattoos. I've seen some and I've heard from people who have them that they are addictive (a fact I believe based on the fact that people with tattoos rarely have one or two...).

My theory is this (and feel free to shoot this theory with as many holes as you wish), the increased number of tattoos has a direct correlation to the proliferation of IPods, and to a lesser degree, smoking.

How can that be, you ask? Well, back in the pre-IPod days, rebels would swear or smoke to shock us square pegs. I can't tell you how many inane, immature, and many times vulgar conversations I heard while trapped in the presence of said rebels. Things got really bad on buses, for example. I don't know what it is about a public bus that would make young hoodlums say the stupidest things...

So, sitting on a bus, I would be forced to listen to the myriad of conversations from others. Now, a rider can pull out an IPod and eliminate the rebel element. The rebels, therefore, went visual. Since they can not longer shock with their spicy language, and smoking can earn the smoker a large red scarlet "S" on their clothing, the hoodlums decided to paint their bodies. And since tattoos are additive (strictly second-hand knowledge here...) the tattoos just keep on coming.

I know that before IPods people had Walkmans, and not everyone with a tattoo is either a rebel or a hoodlum, but I think there might be a correlation and if anyone wishes to donate insane amounts of money to me for research, I'll be glad to try and prove this theory...

  1. I think you may be onto something and if I had a lot of money, I would pay for the research!
