Five Years...

Five years, half a decade. Do a Google search of "What Takes Five Years" and you'll get some interesting responses, most of which center around the fact that most people are taking five years to complete a four-year degree nowadays. The iPhone has been around for five years. The movie "Little Miss Sunshine" took five years to make (according to FilmTrivia.tumblr.com...), and olive trees will begin producing olives five years after planting.

Five years ago was 2007, a year that saw 400,000 acres and 2000 homes  destroyed in a California wildfire. In 2007 19 people declared they were running for President of the United States the following year, and J.K. Rowling finished the 7th novel in her seven-novel Harry Potter series. In 2007, the film "Wrinkles" won several independent film festival awards. I'm partial to that film because I wrote it.

Five years, half a decade. Right now it's 7:30pm on a Sunday night. Five years ago today, my mom, a woman that was both mother and father for 33 years to three children, passed away.  They say time heals all wounds, a phrase many attribute to Chaucer. On a website I found today it states that some people think it goes back to a Greek phrase, "Time is the healer of all necessary evils." The website opinion, by the way, was posted five years ago.

Five years ago my mom passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2007. She's been gone for five years, half a decade. Miss you.

  1. Ohh I'm so sorry about your mom's passing. And you know? Five years can go by so fast. What happened five years ago, seems like just yesterday to me.

    1. Thanks Nicole...and you're right. 5 years can really fly! Before we know it, it will be 10 years and we'll be wondering where it all went. Thanks again.
