The Cat At (The) Play...

See the cat? No... Neither do I. For the past two days (and for some longer...), a smallish yellow house cat had caused the cast of our little community theater production a great source of wonderment...

Last night as the two main characters sang their romantic song (still, kind of creepy where a man is singing with his dead wife, and then they kiss...) many of us in the cast stood spellbound backstage (or back foliage...) and watched that cat catch a bird. It was amazing! It caught the poor thing and kept it on the ground. Then he (or she...don't know for sure) would leave the bird on the ground and step back a pace. The cat then waited until the bird tried to escape then the cat would bound high in the air, catch the bird again and do the same thing over and over again.

None of the actors could interfere; we would have been seen by the audience. When the two leads finished their song and walked back by toward the cat and its doomed toy, the cat grabbed the bird in its mouth and ran off. Tonight before tonight's performance I walked to where the cat/bird event occurred and a few grey feathers were all that remained of the previous evening's display. Just another day at the theater...
