Things Change...

Things Change...

We moved into our house almost 10 years ago...I can't believe it's bee that long. We moved in a few days after the Great Farmington Fire of '03 (I sound like a great-grandfather talking about the turn of the 20th century...).

Before we moved in we put in a lot of sweat equity when we built, but we did not build the cabinets (who builds cabinets themselves, anyway...well, I guess some do). We told the cabinet builders where we wanted to put a microwave oven. They built the space and we bought a microwave oven and stuck it in the space they made.

Fast forward 8 1/2 years and our trusty microwave dies. We go buy a new microwave which we bring home and the modern appliance is 1/4 inch too wide...things change. When did the size of microwaves change and why didn't anyone tell us? Now I really do sound like a great-grandfather...

We put the new microwave in a less than perfect spot until this morning. This morning I got out a couple of saws and cut the side of the cabinet. It's not pretty, but it's where we want it to be. I wasn't too worried about chopping up the cabinet because if we ever sell the house, whoever buys it will probably not like the hickory cabinets we chose anyway and they will have them all taken out. Maybe Formica will be back in style then...
